Alt-Tab with a single application just jerks the window

Bug Description

As it is, it really doesn't look good or works well. The window contracts and expands back in a jerky animation. I know there is no other application to change to but perhaps it would be ideal to still have it show the standard alt-tab functionality.

Same way that the window overview shows even if there is only one window open - this would probably be better feedback for the user. "Oh, I only have one app running" instead of "Why isn't alt-tab working??".

I think we should see what the UX team thinks of this.
I personally think we could smoothen up the animation some more. The snapping movement isn't really that beautiful.

I'm pretty sure this is by design; this is supposed to show that the request is understood, but rejected by the system. If it doesn't communicate that clear enough, it should be improved, not removed.

Yes, it is by design and I agree that if it is to be kept, the animation should definetly be improved.
The case I'm making is that there is another option, besides improving the animation. I mean, the exposé displays windows even if there is only one window, so why not be consistent with that line of thought?
Should there be more than one application before default alt-tab behaviour happens?

I think what Otto is proposing is the way to go at this. It's an animation that the user is expecting from Alt+Tab. The current animation is another new one and could be confusing to new users.

How about the a smoother shaking animation? Like the user presses alt+tab, the dock at the bottom appears, and the lone window shakes to show that its the only window present. Any further attempts at alt+tabbing will shake the window more.

Harvey, what about fullscreen windows?

Yea the current shakey animation looks like a bug.

Can we use the system bell to indicate that nothing can be done and remove the zoom animation?
