Bug Description

Hi,

On a UI point of view I find it's quite awkward that the away message window is
shown until you say gaim you're back.
I like to mark me as away on gaim and still work on my laptop -
So my proposition is that we ge rid of this window

what do you reckon ?

right, this window is annoying. One upstream bug about this:

Hi seb,

the upsteam bug hasn't any reply since septembre - 4 version have been released
since then
maybe we can do something pro-actively ?

I'll try to hack something (but i'm not a really good programmer)

dunno if we can do something. This is probably a bunch of bug upstream
about this but not easy to find something useful in their bug tracker. Feel free
to ping them if you want to push things.

every upstream bug and rfe that starts with the string "STATUS:" in the
description is related to this. it will be addressed in gaim 2.0.0, but no
sooner. we are currently at least a month away from a 2.0.0 release.

I've talked to Gaim developers about this pre-Ubuntu days and they claim it is a
Metacity bug. If you use gaim in xfce, fluxbox, or kde, you'll notice that the
away window can be minimized and the option can be set to minimize away window
on away as well.

If any ubuntu devs can fix this though, I'd be exstatic!

have you read the gaim page pointed on this bug? I don't think that's a window
manager issue, any pointer on this?

to *some* extent it is window manager dependent. that is, on some window
managers the resulting away window can be minimized, on others it cannot.
however, as I understand it, this bug is about the *existance* of said window,
not its ability to be minimized or not. as such, my comment, that this will be
addressed (by us upstream at least) in 2.0.0 and no sooner, stands.

Yes, I agree. I don't think we have much of a choice here but to wait for Gaim
2.0.0. Gaim 2.0.0 won't be released by Breezy, but I'm sure the backports team
will backport it as soon as possible.

This bug is indeed confirmed but there's nothing we can really do about it IMHO. Seems that Gaim 2.0 will not be shipped with Dapper... (try Gajim ;-) )

(sorry for the false upstream bug report. It seems that I don't understand fully SF bts)

Is this fixed now in GAIM Beta ?

Gaim is now called Pidgin and you don't have to tell that you're back anymore. I think this bug can be closed.
