Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

Each time I try to do a distribution upgrade via Update Manager it fails with the following error message:

Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport.

I found several instances of this problem here, but they all seemed to have to do with different package dependency issues, and I couldn't tell by looking at the logs what was causing the problem.

Thanks for your bugreport.

Can you please attach the file /etc/apt/preference and /var/lib/synaptic/preferences ? This looks like this is a problem releated to apt pinning.

Thanks,
 Michael

Nevermind, I figured it out. PhpMyAdmin wasn't liking the fact that PHP4 was disappearing. Here's what I had to do:

1. Uninstall phpmyadmin via Synaptic Package Manager
2. Run upgrade
3. Install PHP5 via SPM
4. Disable PHP4 module in Apache2
5. Install phpmyadmin via SPM

This ticket can be closed, although somebody might want to look at the phpmyadmin and/or PHP5 packages to see if something about the dependencies needs to be fixed.
