After a duration of time, luna will not reload after a suspend. When the laptop lid is opened, all that shows is a black screen without any elements (cursor, text, ect..). Using a Samsung N220.

From a duplicate: "When I suspend my computer, it shuts down fine. However, when I try to resume it, I don't have a video signal. The computer turns back on, but no video signal. I try mouse movements and button presses, but I couldn't get video signal to come back. I eventually had to do a power switch shutdown in order to reboot the computer to re-enter elementary."

I am affected by this as well. I am using Freya Beta 3 on a Thinkpad X230. Steps to reproduce:

1. Allow your system to go automatically into suspend upon reaching a critical battery level.
2. Resume your system and wake your computer from suspend.

I am presented with a black screen. I can switch to another TTY using Ctrl + Alt + F2. I can login but running 'startx' only leads to the same black screen. I need to reboot my machine consequently.

In addition to my previous comment. The black screen also occurs on resume from automatic suspend after X minutes of inactivity.

This is a very severe issue as it basically makes suspend unusable.

The only instance that does work is resume from suspend on lid close.

I did some more investigation on this issue. It turns out that while the screen turns black, the system remains fully responsive. Thus, on facing the black screen I can enter my password which unlocks the login-screen and re-enables the screen again.

Seems to be resolved for me with one of the recent updates. For anyone as well?

You could try a solution posted on https://www.reddit.com/r/elementaryos/comments/34dm4t/fixrestart_corrupted_mouse_after_dragging/
The post also mentions a fix for screen blanking after waking from suspend:

- Open /etc/default/acpi-support as root using scratch or nano:
sudo nano /etc/default/acpi-support

- Find the line "POST_VIDEO=true" and change it to "POST_VIDEO=false"
- Save the file
- Reboot

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the link. I tried the suggestion to change POST_VIDEO=false but my X230 still occasionally fails to resume from suspend with a entirely black screen.

Robert
