Bug Description

I am running xibo 1.4.0 on a linux server and windows clients

Client:
Windows xp
and Windows 7

I have setup rss ticker with the following url http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Service/rss.htm

Here’s an example of the output:
"Sdan s kommissr"

When i see the feed from browser the text is "Sådan så kommissær "

It works ok with our own feed http://www.naturgasfyn.dk/nyheder/?type=100

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your report.

1. The URL you give is not an RSS feed. Which feed are you using please?

2. It's very likely the encoding of the feed itself that is incorrect. We won't be able to do anything really to help in that case.

3. Please don't file bugs against the project initially. We prefer users to ask questions on Launchpad Answers first. We can then convert to a bug if an issue is found.

Thanks

Alex

Can anyone help with a test to verify this?

Refer to the attached question for more information. Basically reading the encoding from the XML might offer a solution. But need research to be sure.

Turns out that the client was always assuming a UTF-8 encoded stream of data, rather than using the headers returned by the RSS feed.

I have corrected this so that we will always cache the RSS file with the encoding served by the source server (this is as we intended it to originally work).

It will mean that if the server returns a content-type header that is incorrect for the document it will fail, in which case we will default to UTF-8 as before.
