Bug Description
version 10.10 was quite stable. no crashes/hangs. upgraded to 12.04 and stablilty suffered. had about 1 hang/crash a day. mouse/screen would freeze. ssh from another host proved that the system was crashed. Tried various nvidia drivers, switched to Noveau and host crashed more often and display would be slow/jerky. Currently hangs 1-2 times a day. Considering to either load ubuntu 10.[04 10]. The system was both stable and awsome prior to upgrading to 12.X. Use this system for work and it's becoming unusable.

summary: |
- System randomly hangs. Sometimes when unattended, sometimes using - firefox + 12.10 random hangs/crash. nvidia probs |
I ran some tests yesterday as this host was crashing too frequently and unusable. I reloaded from scratch with a 12.10 x64 distro and disabled UEFI and also created an XFS root disk partition as opposed to the standard ext4 filesystem. Only Firefox was loaded. the Nvidia drivers had not even been installed and X froze. I was able to ssh in and see the Noveau errors in syslog. [scrollback truncated]... i was unable to capture the errors today from yesterday's session.
I made some changes and my system is now running stable. Not a single crash. My choices were to purchase a different graphics card (big unknown) or to reload a know good OS.
