Bug Description
I was directed here for a feature request so please edit the summary if necessary.
I've recently discovered the Pattern Along Path effect and for some of the work I need to do this could be one of the most invaluable tools that inkscape has to offer. I use this effect to control the my line thickness in a drawing and the implementation of this is simply ingenious, thank you!
The issue I have, and I'm sure others have mentioned it, is that when you click on the Edit-On-Canvas button the pattern appears in the top left corner of the drawing and is extremely tiny. My request is that this pattern be given its own window, perhaps even reside within the sidebar with the effects parameters, the user could zoom in and out if necessary as well.
Also, just an idea, you could add a value that controls how much "strength" the pattern has as well, a value of 1 is normal, a value of 0.1 is extreme fine tuning.
Great program, appreciate the hard work, can't wait to see future versions!

How would you control drawing aids like grid, guides and snapping for that extra preview window? The nice thing about editing the pattern on-canvas is that you can use all drawing aids from the main document window, and even snap to existing objects while adjusting the pattern source.
