The last version in ubuntu (-0ubuntu4) is supposed to fix this.
Please update to it, try to reproduce the bug and give us somme feedback.

Looking at Launchpad, it appears that -ubuntu3 is still the last one built for i386. The dependency is corrected for -ubuntu4. In the meantime, install the gimp-python package to solve this error.

I can confirm this.
The same happens when I launch cinepaint.

The output from the console on which I started cinepaint is attached.

A (hopefully) fixed package has been uploaded to -proposed (-0ubuntu4.1) . can you test it and check if that actually fixes the bug ?
