Bug Description

Sound was disabled after upgrading from 12.04. Today I did a clean 12.10 install, to no avail. The only device listed is "Dummy Output". Added here some outputs that seem to be relevant:

For "aplay -l":

aplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...

For "cat /proc/asound/cards":
--- no soundcards ---

For "lspci -v | grep -A 6 Audio":

 Subsystem: Dell Device 01de

 Memory at febfc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
 Capabilities: <access denied>
 Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel

For "lsb_release -rd":

Well,I'm affected, too. Nothing new here?
In 12.04 sound works fine, so I guess it's no big deal to fix that?

Raymond, I followed the advice given here:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1158033#p1158033

to wit, add

blacklist i82975x_edac

to

/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

It really did kill two birds with a stone: booting Ubuntu could take several minutes and the sound was disabled, now both problems are gone.

Thank you very much!

Rodrigo
