I cannot reproduce it here. The page becomes grey but there is a highlighted
menu where you can select the desired mirror.

~$ dpkg -l | awk '$2 ~ /firefox$/ {print $2" "$3}'
firefox 2.0.0.3+1-0ubuntu2

Maybe you can provide us a backtrace (follow the hints from [1]).

Thank you in advance.

okay, if I wait long enough (and I mean at least a minute, the page turns gray, 10s later the white popup is shown) .. but I've got a dual core 2 GHZ, 2 GB RAM which should do all this faster, I think ;-)

I made a backtrace with calling the URL, waiting for the page turn grey and then use xkill to interrupt firefox.

which extensions/plugins do you have enabled?

Try to check if firefox behaves the same manner in safe mode (e.g. calling it in a xterm with the flag -safe-mode)

Adblock Plus was installed but disabled when reproducing the crash.
"firefox -safe-mode" shows the same behavior.

I cannot reproduce this anymore .. perhaps automatic updates in firefox fixed that .. or the sourceforge-guys changed something..
