Bug Description

The unity's response-time/performance increases dramatically when I turn off these settings in CCSM>OpenGL on my acer i5core laptop with optimus:
Sync to VBlank
Texture Compression
Framebuffer object
Vertex buffer object

Leaving only Always use buffer swapping causes the screen to be VSynced, but with much more performance. My out of the box settings were all above in ON state.

Using ubuntu 12.10 with compiz official ppa from launchpad. Also, I use intel processors graphical unit to render my screen, not my nvidia card.

I know, but such performance is subjective. We chose the defaults based on what works best for most graphics configurations, not all.

Rather than mark this as invalid/opinion/won't fix, I think making it a duplicate of bug 1024304 might be more useful.
