Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Running up to date feisty i386 on an Athlon XP 1800+ with an add-in ES1371 PCI soundcard. PulseAudio is outputting to the sound-card through ALSA.

I launch audacity like this:

padsp audacity /usr/share/games/uqm/content/pkunk/insult01.wav

but when I try to play the sound file, I get a dialogue box:

"Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate"

In the terminal window I see:

Expression 'ioctl( *odev, SNDCTL_DSP_SETTRIGGER, &enableBits )' failed in 'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 819
Expression 'OpenDevices( idevName, odevName, &idev, &odev )' failed in 'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 857
Expression 'PaOssStream_Initialize( stream, inputParameters, outputParameters, streamCallback, userData, streamFlags, ossHostApi )' failed in 'src/hostapi/oss/pa_unix_oss.c', line: 1222

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - the Gutsy Gibbon.

A backport request has been made to fix this in feisty.

Could you specify the version you ack? Hardy is unstable and new versions are uploaded there

 * Trying to backport pulseaudio...

  - <pulseaudio_0.9.6-1ubuntu2.diff.gz: downloading from librarian>
  - <pulseaudio_0.9.6-1ubuntu2.dsc: downloading from librarian>
I: Extracting pulseaudio_0.9.6-1ubuntu2.dsc ... done.
I: Building backport of pulseaudio-0.9.6 as 0.9.6-1ubuntu2~feisty1 ... done.

I backported the stable and ack'ed gutsy version.
