I have the default settings, but with 6 desktops. I brought it back to 4, but that doesn't help. Where do I find the other compiz settings?

FYI it's not just gnome-panel that only appears on desktop 1, but icons, links etc. behave the same. Only windows are visible on desktops higher than 1.

I tried deleting ~/.gnome, ~/.gnome2 and ~/.gnome2_private so I had fresh gnome settings, but it doesn't help

Weirdly enough the problem is gone today, although there were no updates. Since I can't reproduce it now, I suggest we call this an incident and close it.
