Bug Description

Each time I insert a blank DVD a window opens telling me that I just inserted a blank DVD and asking what to do with it. Immediately another window opens on top of it and reads "Unable to mount Blank DVD-R Disc Location is already mounted"

I can click OK to get back to the first window, but the error is really annoying and makes no sense.

I noticed this issue as well. Simply inserting any blank media (CD or DVD) causes the error message. Fresh, updated 12.10 install.

I fixed the issue on 13.04 by using "dconf editor".
Navigated to "org/gnome/desktop/media-handling" and unticked "automount" and "automount-open"

Same problem, when I insert a blank CD or DVD, I get that warning about it already being mounted. But, I can burn CD's or DVD's successfully, while ignoring it.

Running 13.04 Xubuntu

Update.
If anyone is still having problems. The error came back for me after using my fix above using "dconf editor".
Navigated to "org/gnome/desktop/media-handling" and unticked "automount" and "automount-open".

So I used dconf-editor again and used the search function and searched for "auto". I found lots of matches but found that the auto-mount settings for Caja (Cinammon desktop) were causing the auto-mount warning/error even though I was using a Unity session. The problem must have come back when I started using Caja instead of Nautilus.

1. Ignoring the warning/error message is IMPOSSIBLE. In brasero, the "Burn" button is grayed-out. In k3b, the "Start" button is grayed-out. Not possible to burn a dvd.

2. Tested trying to burn ISO image that was smaller than 4.4Gb - at this point, the "Burn" and "Start" buttons in their respective programs were available.

3. The problem seems to be the size of the ISO being written or DVD original being copied (for backup/archive).

HOWEVER, that makes absolutely no sense, given that the blank DVD is DL AND that I was able to both burn the 7.6GB ISO image and copy the original DVD on the SAME computer, SAME drive, SAME blank DVDs in a Windows-7 Ultimate VM running under Ubuntu Saucy 13.10-64Bit, again, SAME MACHINE.

I respectfully suggest that this is not a "low priority" problem, as it prevents a perfectly legitimate operation that is performed flawlessly under a Windows VM running under the same Ubuntu Saucy host, and that someone be assigned to work on this so it can be resolved in time to be included in the upcoming LTS.

Use K3b then you can ignore the warnings or "OK" them away & proceed with
the operation of the K3b Disc Burner. However, I agree with you that a fix
should be given a high priority. I had this problem in Linux mint 14 but
I'm now upgrading to Linux Mint 16. I'll let you know if this bug has been
fixed in the new release.

I have the same bug in 13.10 64bit, using Unity. After many troubles with it and catalyst drivers, I finally decided to install MATE, this solved all my graphic problems, but this error remained. I'm burning all my DVDs with K3b, and every time I insert a blank DVD, there is a window that pops up saying "unable to mount blank dvd". Clicking on OK, everything works, but after burning some 7-8 DVDs it really goes on my nerve (I sometimes forgot to close them, and they are scattered all over my workspaces, depending on where I was when I inserted blank DVD).

I can turn them off by unticking automount in dconf-editor (for nautilus/caja), that solves the problem, but then my external hard/flash disks won't automount, which is unacceptable (I despise windows explorer/nautilus/caja/etc file managers, my choice for a long time is commander-style file manager, currently double commander). And without automount option, every time I attach a device, I need to start nautilus/caja to mount it. Yes, I know there are other ways for this, but this was such a no-brainer for a long time, why go back?

Marty's workaround in post #6 did not work for me until I figured that I also had to untick the relevant options in Nemo's configuration. It seems that Gnome might be relying on Nautilus and its configuration options, but it does not help to those of us who switched to Nemo after Nautilus had been severely incapacitated.

In summary, this is what fixed the problem for me:

- in "dconf editor", untick "automount" and "automount-open" in "org/gnome/desktop/media-handling"

- in Nemo -> Edit -> Preferences, "Behavior" tab, untick "Automatically mount removeable media when inserted on startup" and "Automatically open a folder for automounted media".
