I had the very same problem and after many hours of jacking around with this I found something that works. So you may try this and see if it works for you.

Edit -> Preferences -> Synchronization -> Clear
Edit -> Preferences -> Add-ins -> Synchronization
Disable them all and exit tomboy.
Restart tomboy and Enable "Local Directory Sync Service Add-in"
Then go back to:
Edit -> Preferences -> Synchronization and use Service: Local Folder and add the Folder Path.

The Local Folder works after doing this. The problem was that once I got it working it always works even if I enable the WebDav and Web Sync Add-in. So I don't know what causes it to break, but this was the fix for me.

Hope this helps.

How can I help more? The bug still affects me every time I try to synchronize locally my notes. Tomboy 1.12.0 on Ubuntu 12.10 amd64 (fresh install - full updated - no customizations)

This bug afects me too. The solution proposed at comment #3 does not work. Ubuntu 12.10 64bit, updated with tomboy_1.12.0-1ubuntu1_amd64 from repositories.

The suggested solution has not worked for me either.

This issue is becoming more urgent because Ubuntu One is dropping support for the current mechanism of synching in late Feb. Already their tinkering caused the server to think that I deleted all of my notes and proceeded to delete all the notes on my computer.

As the server situation drives people to search for other solutions, some will want to get Tomboy to synch locally with the Ubuntu One folder (or dropbox), something that doesn't work due to this bug.

Ubuntu 12.10 32-bit
