rhythmbox allows playing and ripping CDs at the same time

Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I put a CD in, select the CD source, hit "Copy to library", wait a moment, hit "Play", it'll try to both play and rip at the same time, which causes much CD head seeking, skippy playback, and slow ripping.

Ideally, it would either not play, or would play from the ripped version to avoid this.

Thank you for your bug, that's not a bug though, if you think it slows it down too much just use one thing at time

I would like to re-evaluate the importance of this bug. I can confirm that I feel this is a low priority bug/high priority feature request.

When in Rhythmbox if you Play an Audio CD and, as it is playing, click "Copy To Library"; Instead of stopping the play, it encodes while playing (with no audio output), very slowly moving across the song making the encoder very slow. This is simply because the "Copy To Library" code that needs a slight modification.

I think this feature should be requested: Change the action on "Copy To Library" to force a stop on the CD play, then lock CD from playing while encoding and start the encoding process, playing the ripped audio instead of the source audio.

Allow ripping and playing - just have the ripped data used to play instead of the actual audio from the disk. In other words, play what you are ripping. Rip it, play it, encode it, write it all at the same time.
