Bug Description

I assume a system upgrade is due every 6 months. If so, then the next upgrade would be V 12.10. When can I expect this?

It ried to download 12.10 first to my wired connection desktop and it crashed after about the thrird step loading packages. Techy friend said maybe it was cause by a firewall built into my router so I rewired the desktop directly from the network modem. Same thing. Rebooted the computer and the modem, same thing. Went back to original hookup and tried to upgrade my netbook also running 12.04, same result.

HELP!!!

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add the log files from '/var/log/dist-upgrade/' to this bug report as separate attachments? Thanks in advance.

Here is the message I get when I try to upgrade and it shuts down and reverts to 12.04

This is after I have tried all of the different approaches and machines described above. BTW I have used this machine for a few years now and successfully performed at least four prior upgrades.

Additional info:

My desktop is a Dell with an ADP 4 channel chip not i386. My netbook is Azus with a Celeron chip. Both were originally purchased new with ubuntu [I forget the version] installed.

After reading your last comment I tried the upgrade again. Got the same error message. I guess it isn't fixed yet.

The missing repository causing these updates to fail seem to be a Dell repository. I think it's safe to just disable it as its Precise counterpart seem to empty too.

Try this
1. Open Software Sources via Update Manager by clicking Settings button in the main window (if I remember correctly, it can't be directly found from Dash)
2. Go to Other Software tab
3. Find a line which refers to Dell or has the URL in message #2
4. Disable it

Then restart the upgrade.

It worked! I'm now running v12.10. It's different enough from 12.04 to
take a while for me to get used to it.

Thanks
