I get exactly the same error-massage when i try to access my memory-stick, a CD in my optical unit and my xp-partition on my hard-disc. For me also, the problem started when i upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10.

There's a solution to this bug. Open a terminal and enter the following two commands - without comments and fill in your user/login name as USERNAME:

# Add a folder
sudo mkdir /media/USERNAME

# assign the folder to my user
sudo chown USERNAME.USERNAME /media/USERNAME

Please report wether this helps.

Kind regards,

Stefan
