Bug Description
It is useful to know the number of pages in a book, which is immediately obvious when glancing at a physical bookshelf, but much harder to do with eBooks.
For me, this is relevant as I use calibre to organize reference books (many on the same subject), and the thickness of the text often hints at the level of detail. This is highly specific , but it would be visually nice, at the very least, if Steinbeck's The Red Pony looked different from Dumas's The Count of Monte Cristo.
In my mind, this feature could be implemented in several iterations: the first is available - a user defined column with page numbers; the second would fill in this field when the user chooses to Download Metadata or simply pulls this information from the file. My vision of a fully fledged feature would have books in the cover browser appear as 3D books rather than 2D covers. The real spine, back cover, etc. are of course irrelevant; some generic graphic to represent the rest of the book would be plenty. The thickness of a sheet, novel vs textbook dimensions, etc. aren't really important either: I would just like to see a book with say 2 million characters appear roughly twice as thick as one with 1 million.
Thank you,
Leo

This is not worth the effort for me personally. If some one else wants to implement it, I will be happy to supply any needed guidance. If so, re-open the ticket and we can discuss it.
Note that you can use the Page Count calibre plugin to automatically
get a number that tells you the size of the book. It wont change teh
cover rendering, of course.
