'E:Type 'ain' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stebbins-handbrake-releases-precise.list, E:The list of sources could not be read., E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You seem to have a broken source file in your APT configuration. Please run following commands to fix this issue:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stebbins-handbrake-releases-precise.list
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
sudo apt-get update

The first command removes the invalid PPA, the second command adds the PPA back and the third command updates the package cache.

I am closing this bug as a duplicate of bug 994515 which has been fixed in the latest version of Ubuntu - Quantal Quetzal. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] for bug 994515 to bring the need to a developer's attention.
