Bug Description

Hi,

    How to reproduce :

Chose "Canada" Keyboard (French Canadian) by default and chose "English US" to second choice.

Switch from "Canada" to "English US" keyboard. Try to write pipe character you will get >>>> and <<<<
suppose to be |||||||||| and \\\\\\\

Note : When I do my initial installation I chose English US for the Default Keyboard. After that, on gnome I switch to "Canada"
keyboard by default (I don't like to have "French Canadian" keyboard on console (Alt-F1) when a have to resolve problem).

This bug is for the Ubuntu 7.04 Beta Feisty Fawn ...

Thank you

Ivan

Thank you for your bug. Could you add the keyboard indicator applet, right click on it and select the option to show the layout, do a screenshot of the dialog and attach it to the bug?

Hi, just upgraded from Edgy to Feisty-fawn and have the exact same problem.

However, here are additional infos:

-Keyboard layout: Generic 104-key PC

Activated Layouts:
- Canada (default)
- U.S. English

When I open up a terminal, I usually switch to U.S. English, however the mapping of the "\ |" key types "< >", like it would normally do on the Canada keyboard configuration.

It is annoying, but there seems to be a workaround:
Put U.S. English first and then Canada (still being default) in the Keyboard Preferences dialog, everything works normally.

Update:

I just looked on the xkeyboard-config code repository and there was a change brought on the following file:
/xkeyboard-config/symbols/us

-----------------------
Revision 1.28 - (view) (download) (annotate) - [selected]
Sun Apr 29 16:28:26 2007 UTC (23 hours ago) by svu
Branch: MAIN
Changes since 1.27: +2 -1 lines
Diff to previous 1.27

adding BKSL to us, b.fd.o#10811 and relevant
------------------------

Modified file can be checked here: http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config/symbols/us?revision=1.28&view=markup

Diff with previous version: http://webcvs.freedesktop.org/xkeyboard-config/xkeyboard-config/symbols/us?r1=1.27&r2=1.28

Note: I have absolutely no knowledge about xkeyboard-config and my assumption might be false. Updating Ubuntu's xkeyboard-config package might just solve this problem.

The above code looks like fix, but I'm not sure.
And there are the required screenshots of keyboard layouts. Problem is with the key above Enter/Return key. But those scrrenshots looks OK.
