With the extension active, when Thunderbird is started and Address Book selected, the contacts are not populated. Closing down Address Book (with Thunderbird still running) and reselecting does populate contacts. 100% repeatable.
If the extension is disabled, the Address Book populates as expected when Thunderbird is started and Adress Book selected. 100% repeatable.
