Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

When attempting to play runescape the java window displays "error loading applet". Using firefox 2.0.0.3 with sun java 6.

Proposed testcase:

1. Log onto Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

2. Open Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3

3. In the address bar, type "www.runescape.com".

4. Click the large button that says "Play Runescape (Existing User)"; the fact that you have no account does not matter, since you will not reach the page that would normally allow a user to enter their name and password.

5. Click either the "Low Detail" sign , or the "High Detail" sign.

6. Click either "Choose best free world for me" or "Choose best members world for me". Again, since you will net reach the page that would normally allow a user to enter their name as password, it doesn't matter.

7. Wait for page to load. It will not. I get the top part of the interface that includes the Jagex sign, the "Main Menu", "World Select", "World Map", and "Rules" links, and the search feature. Under that, it's all a cream (white) screen. A few seconds later, the "Error loading applet" words appear.

Despite downloading every java plugin I thought would help, I still get this.

I had the same problem with Java when I tried to play RuneScape as well. I don't know what the output would be except for what the original post had in quotes ("Error loading applet"). The link for the game is www.runescape.com

I have the same problem. I don't know how to give you output from Java, but I think the Firefox java plugin version is 1.0. I can, however, tell you how to reproduce the problem.

Thank you for your bug report. Im going to look into this more today and see what is going on. If you have another GUI browser like konqueror or epiphany, galeon please test with those as well. I will be testing them as well.

OK i foun dout it works on epiphany-browser just fine but fails on firefox and konqueror. I added task for konqueror since it seems that it is a browser issue

I know what GUI stands for, but not well enough to know what counts as a GUI browser. :D I've got Firefox on my Xubuntu computer, and it accesses that site and loads the applet just fine. For clarification, it's the Firefox on Ubuntu that doesn't work. However, I downloaded Opera to the Ubuntu computer, and it's worked perfectly, so far.

for those that were havin trouble getting on to runescape even though they installed the latest java, instead of just pressing on the high/ low deatil button scroll down the page and you will see "Select Java Version - only change this if the default doesn't work". select the " signed applet using SUN java" option and press the little high/ low detail buttons. after that choose the world you want and the page should load properly.

however when i do that, i logtin and then the browser (firefox) window quits, including all the other windows i have open. i have looked everywhere else and cant find an answer. can anyone pleeeese help?

If you have this problem you only need to go to tools, options. Next to Enable JavaScript, there should be an Advanced button. Tick all the boxes. It should work now.

This issue seems more of a setting than a bug in the way firefox works. I dont think this should be against on kdebase either but will let kde guys/gals close it.
