You can turn that off by setting org.pantheon.desktop.gala.animations.snap-duration in dconf to 0.

Perhaps changing the animation to hide the contents of the window while maximizing it is a more 'pretty' approach.

It should be considered a bug. This looks awful when maximizing a small window.

By adding a fade effect of the window contents between the un-maximized and maximized image it could look better.

Disabling it is not desired, and making the fade would require us to have some things we currently don't have and it could potentially make things a lot more unstable. An implementation in mutter itself might be more usable.

@aggronfg: I couldn't have tried to explain it any better. I don't see why it couldn't do that, and with the current animation's speed, it should look like a smooth resize.

Tom, I'm revisiting this as it's been a long-requested feature of mine. Is this still looking impractical/unstable? It'd be _awesome_ if we could get a quick, smooth crossfade between window states.

Dan requested help from the community to verify bugs. I think with the 10 people that marked this bug as affecting them and testing the latest gala this is valid and we should polish this.
