Bug Description

I was trying your emacs24 package 24.2+1-1~ppa1~precise6 on ubuntu 12.04 and for some reason it wasn't rendering the scroll bar. I purged my ubuntu emacs23 packages and restarted emacs24 but there was still nothing.

It appeared there was an empty space for a scroll bar, there just didn't seem to be anything in it.

When I ran emacs24 from the shell it also output:

** (emacs24:13223): CRITICAL **: os_bar_hide: assertion `OS_IS_BAR (bar)' failed

(emacs24:13223): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_hide: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed

** (emacs24:13223): CRITICAL **: os_bar_set_parent: assertion `OS_IS_BAR (bar)' failed

I'm using ubuntu with unity and compiz turned on with the OS theme set to radiance. (As a first guess I might wonder if the narrow ubuntu scroll bars might be the source for this bug).

I read more, its part of the unity overlay-scrollbar problems.

LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 emacs24 worked. (well with a backported quantal emacs24, but it had the same problem.)

Ubuntu's unity overlay-scrollbars cause problems.

Changed in emacs-snapshot:

LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 emacs24 worked with vanilla Ubuntu 12.10 Emacs24 too.
