Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-i810-modesetting

I have a Sony Vaio TX2 with Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM chipset and Ubuntu Feisty Fawn installed.
I am using i810 modesetting because the standard i810 driver wasn't able to display the resolution 1680x1050 of my external monitor even with 915resolution. With modesetting it works out of the box except of the MonitorLayout CRT option.
But the problem is that with i810 modesetting my LFP with a native resolution of 1366x768 stops working (standard i810 had no problem with my LFP). X recognizes the correct resolution of the LFP but seems to have no mode for it. It crashes/stops if no external monitor is connected. The only possibilty to use the LFP is to replace the resolution 1366x768 with 1024x768 which looks not so good of course.

Try this package http://users.tkk.fi/~tjaalton/xorg72/new/xserver-xorg-video-intel_1.9.93-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
it contains the intel 2.0 RC3 prepared for ubuntu feisty fawn and has a good chance of resolving your issue.

Many thanks for your fast answer. I have installed the driver and starting of gdm works fine with the correct 1366x768 resolution but after login gdm crashes/restarts without visible error message. Maybe it has something to do with the gnome resolution manager.

But it isn't release in Feisty? If not, where can I get a deb for Feisty or at least the source files to compile it?

It works fine with external monitor except that the LFP isn't off and tries to clone the desktop and that the screen resolution in gnome have to be adjusted but that is not you problem.
But without external monitor I have the same problem like with Intel 2.0 RC3. It boots gdm fine and shows the correct resolution but after login X crashes/restarts. That seems to be a screen resolution problem too, but I don't know.
