Bug Description

Binary package hint: knetworkmanager

knetworkmanager 0.1-0ubuntu12 no properly sets the manual configuration mode, but uses the same icon for this as for a wired network. This is an extremely poor user interface because sometimes the icon means that there is a wired network connection and other times the same icon means that the network interface is managed manually and there may or may not be a network connection available.

Note this is a significant change that it is to late to fix for Feisty.

This is a rather annoying issue... see Question 9482 (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/9482).

KNetworkManager can't set this NetworkManager property, so I couldn't fix the problem without logging in to GNOME.

NM 0.7 which is now available in intrepid properly supports static ip configs and thus the icon is the proper wireless icon with signal strength indication.
