Bug Description

I updated Feisty Fawn this morning (via Synaptic) and did a regular reboot. There is a new entry in GRUB for a new kernel 2.6.20-14 generic, but that one won't boot the laptop. Instead I see the following error message:
[9.72.0000] ata1.00: revalidation failed (errno= -19)

Machine specifications:
Acer Aspire 3681 WXMi, 512 MB DDR2 RAM, Intel Celeron M 410, Mobile Intel 940 GML Express Chipset, 802.11 b/g wifi

I can still boot into the laptop using the 2.6.20-13 generic kernel, so I have to assume that the problem is related to the new kernel.

just posted this at bug~106011

after update to linux-image 2.6.20-14-23, upon boot. lib-ata or sata-via is reporting a revalidation error (error 19) on the detected detect drive (only one connected), and as that drive is the root drive is not being found and thus system will not continue to boot.

last valid boot was with 2.6.20-14.22-generic @ 13/april/2007 (BST)
not attaching dmesg as it dows not indicate saiud error (ie all sata stuff clean) and has nothing to do with 2.6.20-12.23

system specs:
kubuntu 7.04 beta
2.6.20-14-23

1x WDC WDC740ADFD-00NLR1 74gb
1x excelstor 82gb (hda)

I'm having the same problem. I updated via synaptic to -14. It told me to reboot, so I did, but it froze after passing grub. I can still boot in -12, and I don't seem to have any problems with my hard drive.

I'm running an Asus A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard with a single seagate 160 sata drive.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
