Bug Description

What I expected to happen:

Being able to seamlessly drag and drop a file or folder to any destination.

What really happened (See attached screencast):

Initial lag when starting to drag the icon. Lag lasts as long as it takes the launcher to fade out all icons except the nautilus home icon. As soon as this fade out process is complete, dragging the icon works flawlessly again.

Other notes:

This worked fine initially.

This affects me as well.

I would like to ask that this problem also spread on different software that uses system default drag & drop procedures - filezilla for example. Sometimes it's a real pain to wait 10 seconds fro draging few files to development server for project compie.

I marked this as a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1018215 because I'm confident both issues (drag and drop events being lost on panel fade, and lag during panel fade) have the same cause.

It's worth noting neither bugs are present when the Unity plugin is disabled from within CCSM. It's also worth noting that when re-enabling the Unity plugin from within CCSM on Ubuntu 13.10, the panel fade animation during dragging doesn't initate, and neither this lag nor the lost drop events occur. So I conclude this bug is precisely related to the fade animation of the unity panel.
