Bug Description
Binary package hint: nvidia-glx
On a fresh install of the feisty beta I activated the nvidia package thru the administration menu.
Worked, compiz is running. But I am not able to set it to my monitors native 1900x1200 resolution. Well, ubuntu never did that...(unlike fedora)
So I edited xorg.conf, 24bit, 1900x1200. STRG-ALT-BACKSPACE brings me to the login again, but now everything runs in 800x600, reboot does not change it.
Why can't ubuntu detect the res. from the dvi connection? (without the nvidia package as well)?
my notebook runs on an ati card and has 1900x1200 as well - it works out of the box.

Ubuntu has a bad monitor detection bug (bug 3731) that fails to detect your monitor's refresh rates. The work around is to manually set HorizSync and VertRefresh in the Monitor section of your xorg.conf appropriate to your monitor. See bug 3731 for more discussion on this.
