gawk-error running make menuconfig

"make menuconfig"... was this a kernel compile, then? Can you please tell me exactly what kernel you were compiling: what version, where you downloaded it?
And, at what stage of the 'make menuconfig" did this happen--was this right towards the beginning, after you typed make menuconfig (say, before you even get to a menu)?
