Cannot open high resolution files.

I tried opening a 80 MP image taken with a "Phase one" medium format camera file with following specifications:

Software version :Feh 2.2-1
OS Version :desktop 3.2.0-31-generic #50-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 7 16:16:45 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Format :JPG
Size :31MB
Width :10328 pixels
Height :7760 pixels

Feh just hangs there, without displaying anything.

When you say that 'feh' hangs, what do you see? For me I see a blank white window, and it's not using any CPU; but the reason it's blank and white is that it's looking at the upper top left of the image which is the white background, if I click and drag to move nearer the middle of the image I see the picture, similarly if I use the option to put it to full screen I see the entire image.
