Bug Description

Sorry I don't know if it is lightdm or nautilus or something else that handles this.

Leave computer for a while until screen blanks
Come back

Would expect login screen to be presented

Screen is black and no login box appears although cursor does change to text entry when over where the box would be.
Clicking where box would be and entering password blind just gives a black screen and default cursor everywhere.

Don't think this is reliably reproduceable.

Killing the gnome-session process allows me to get back to the login screen but nothing else I could do helped.

I'd say xorg is a better bet than nautilus. There's no info here about your video hardware -- the simplest way to get it would be to start over with:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

So I'm going to mark this one Invalid to close it, because it'll be smoother for you than directing that info to this existing report. Thanks.
