Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

About 1/3 of the times when trying to reply an email the new spawned message has the field to: blank
is needed to manually type the reply address in order to make it work or is needed to close the message and reply again.
Usually at the second try the field to: is correct, but sometime requests 3 tries.
the same behaviour happens in all my machines:
laptop with feisty
dekstop with feisty
dekstop with edgy upgraded to feisty

I cannot confirm this bug. I tried replying to several messages and the field was blank in none of the cases. What I did notice was that the field is not filled in until the new reply message has been fully rendered. Are you sure you are waiting long enough (if you start to type before the message is fully rendered that will over-ride the automatic fill-in)?

I am also unable to reproduce this bug. can you please list all addons, extensions, themes that you have installed and give us a screenshot of what you mean and step by step instructions on how to reproduce this. is it only when replying to webmail? is it when you only have something else open?

the problem happens to me only with thunderbird freshly opened (only with the first email i reply to)
however i must say after the first problem, now doesn't show anymore,
this is an example of what happens when i try to reply, everything works but the field A: (to:)
also it happens only with email that have image attachments...

as addon i have:
identity select
nestedquoteremover
signature switch
magic slr
accountex
italian language

I've just started seeing a similar bug on Gutsy - not sure if it's the same one. It only happens with e-mails from a certain person (who, as it happens, runs Thunderbird on Windows). If I hit "Reply", I get my own address in the To box instead of hers. I have looked at the message headers and can't see anything obviously wrong. I've attached a sample of the headers from one of the problem messages.

Is this still affecting anyone with Thunderbird 2 or later?

I have also experienced the same problem: when using reply to or reply all the to and cc fields are left blank.
This problem surfaced with the update of Thunderbird from v24.6.0 to v31.0.

I believe that some plug-ins causes this situation to happen.

When I disable all plug-ins before installing the new version of Thunderbird and enable them again after the update everything works fine. I had initially thought that Enigmail caused the problem since a configuration wizard shows up after the Thunderbird update and applies some configuration settings but Agostino does not have the Enigmail plug-in installed.

In my case I am running everything in a virtual machine and so I can roll back to an earlier version and give it another try. This was quite useful in this case since I have not found out what configuration setting in Enigmail (or another plug-in) causes the problem to happen.

Hello Agostinomaurotto,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird. You made this bug report in 2007 and there have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.

Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to this bug?
If you are, could you let us know and, in the current version, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 105536
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Thunderbird better.
G
