Bug Description
Please sync microcode.ctl 1.18~0+nmu2 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib)
Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
* Fix microcode JSON search URL and add useful check. LP: #891283.
* Fix microcode JSON search URL and add useful check. LP: #891283.
[ Stefano Rivera ]
* Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/
microcode, and reduce the debconf priority on this question to medium.
(LP: #604257)
- Rewrote update-
download updated microcode correctly (LP: #569488)
- update-
Python's built in tarfile library rather than a temporary directory.
- debian/
[ Daniel J Blueman]
* Fix failure to untar firmware from Intel, due to internal filename change
(LP: #783239)
The new packages are *transitional* packages to *replace* microcode.ctl with
the new intel-microcode (see LP: #1054979) and iucode-tool packages.
It effectively removes microcode.ctl from Ubuntu, therefore the deltas are
not relevant any longer.
It is possible that an Ubuntu developer might want to apply the changelog delta
from the Ubuntu packages to make sure the upload history also covers the Ubuntu
versions.
Since it removes microcode.ctl, it will close all open bugs against the
microcode.ctl package.
This request for sync should NOT be approved unless the request for sync for
intel-microcode (LP: #1054979) is also approved.
Changelog entries since current 12.10 version 1.17-13.1ubuntu2:
microcode.ctl (1.18~0+nmu2) unstable; urgency=medium
* Non-maintainer upload.
* Add changelog entries for 1.17-13.2 and 1.17-13.1 (closes: #687835)
Missing changelog entries wreak havok with the BTS version tracking,
this is not simply a cosmetic fix.

microcode.ctl (1.18~0+nmu1) unstable; urgency=low
* Non-maintainer upload.
* Replace microcode.ctl with a transitional package, to migrate
systems to the new intel-microcode package
+ Change to empty native package, debhelper compat level 7
+ debian/copyright: update
+ Move to contrib/oldlibs, priority extra
+ Remove replaces of a package not seen in the last decade
+ Change description to that of a transitional package
+ Depend on intel-microcode (>> 1) which superseded installing
microcode updates, and on iucode-tool, which superseded
the processing of microcode directly downloaded from Intel
+ Conflict with intel-microcode (<< 1) to be able to remove
/
installed either by microcode.ctl's update-
script or by intel-microcode (<< 1).
+ Use dpkg-maintscrip
+ Remove /usr/share/
configuring, and regenerates the initramfs in that case. This
avoids left-over cruft microcode in the initramfs for the case
where update-
together with intel-microcode (>> 1)
