This has been forever the case, since I started using gnome classic on Ubuntu 11. I am now to Ubuntu 12 and it is still there.
Here is the problem description:
- when I left click on the wifi thingy in the applet, a menu drops down. There is a short list of what the applet seems to consider the most important wifi networks, (although I don't follow it's reasoning on choosing the preferred ones, apart from it being too short).
- However, NONE of the things in the dropdown menu respond to any clicks, and the "More networks" pull-out shows nothing more than a thin grey line of about a centimeter long and a few milimeters thick.
So it's a hassle to connect to any network that it doesn't connect automatically to, especially when it is not in the list. I have to go through the main gnome menu to find the network tools and look at another device to find the SSID for the network I want to connect to. Then enter it manually, and then, the indicator applet will find it. This is how right now I was able to file this bug. Cheers, fje
I intermittantly have issues with this as well. Switching the wireless off in hardware causes the indicator applet to update, but the menu does not work. I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on a Thinkpad x230.
