I'm seeing the same thing here, even with a fresh user. The only diagnostic I can find is the following message in .xsession-errors:

(gnome-panel:14206): Bonobo-WARNING **: Cannot get value: Unknown CORBA exception id: 'IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0'

I'm wondering if this is related to the network-manager updates last week. I first started seeing this problem after that update and I think slab uses network-manager to monitor the network status.

Not a network-manager issue, broke after a libslab update to the GNOME 2.18.1 version. Probably just needs to be recompiled against the new libslab, although it's possible the code might need to be tweaked too.

New version available at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=409896 . Works for me. Hopefully it will make it into the repos soon.

This upload fixes the bug:

 slab (0.6.3~svn20070207-0ubuntu3) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   * debian/patches/07_libslab_static_use:
     - use static libslab build since the code is not compatible with the
       gnome-control-center new version (Ubuntu: #105440)

Hi

the upload has fixed the bug, but the main menu suffers another bug (i think from netork manager) that the network status read on the menu is offline whereas network manager reports I'm connected. Other than that, thanks!
