I do not think this is an issue with Deluge. What browser are you using?

If it is Firefox you would need to goto Preferences | Applications | magnet and 'choose other' and select /usr/bin/deluge as the option.

I did test this in 12.10 and although Deluge did not appear in the inital list, using /usr/bin/deluge and the ticking 'Always Use' does work. I am not sure why Ubuntu is not picking up the Mimetype from the Deluge.desktop file.

I was thinking it would be helpful if you could include the output from the following commands (some files may not exist):

cat /usr/share/applications/mimeapps.list | grep magnet
cat /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache | grep magnet
cat /usr/share/applications/defaults.list | grep magnet
cat ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list | grep magnet
cat ~/.local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache | grep magnet
cat ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list | grep magnet

grep magnet /usr/share/applications/*.desktop
grep magnet ~/.local/share/applications/*.desktop

xdg-mime query default x-sheme-handler/magnet

This is the old way of setting magnet so is simply for completeness:
gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/magnet/command

I installed Deluge from Ubuntu Software Center on a fresh and updated install of Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit on ASUS EeePC 1215B with AMD Brazos APU. However, Firefox is NOT informed of the installation and when a torrent link in TPB is clicked, Firefox pops up a dialog asking the user to choose the default torrent client but Deluge is NOT an option.

Users will NOT know where to find Deluge binary run file. How can this be solved?

This issue is actually fixed by adding a magnet tag to the .desktop file like Transmission and other torrent clients have without this in the .desktop file browsers do not know to offer Deluge as a option.

What do you mean 'adding a magnet tag' the desktop file, it has had the magnet scheme included since 1.3.2.
