indicator-messages does not display despite gwibber and empathy running

Bug Description
No messaging indicator appears on the top unity panel, when running the service manually it fails with "Name request failed."

The messaging menu doesn't appear anymore when no applications are using it. If you had applications that were using it, just start them manually once and the menu should reappear.
The failed name requests happens because the service is already running.
