Bug Description

For 13.04 the plan is to give the opportunity for users and companies to register the machine with their Landscape account or instance and pull down applicable preference(s) such as whether or not to enable full disk encryption. We need a tasteful splash screen early in the installer for that option to be available.

As this is a feature definition discussion and a work item for next cycle, could we please instead use the whiteboard at the blueprint for this feature such that we have all the details in Copenhagen @ UDS-R? [1]

Such that all parties involved get the notifications. E.g. mpt is subscribed to the blueprint, but not to the zillion bug reports coming to ubiquity.

Also there were already some mockups done for similar, but slightly different concept: reinstall from cloud sync. See the ubiquity design document [2]

Are you ok moving this bug report to the blueprint?

I have no objections to moving it. Whatever is most appropriate and works best for mpt.

Dean, I need two things to start with:
(1) a list of all the settings Landscape could be preseeding here
(2) a description of whether the settings should be overridable on an individual PC.

Please reassign to me when you've provided those. Thanks!

Matthew,

We'll keep the Landscape client settings the same as what's in the system settings dialog now which is:

 * Service type (hosted or LDS)
 * Account name (in the case of hosted)
 * Server URL (in the case of LDS)
 * Passphrase (optional)

In terms of the installer preseeding, we're keeping the scope of this limited to FDE so just whether or not to enable FDE will be the only thing.

In terms of overridable, that depends on what's returned from Landscape. If it's set as optional in the Landscape account, then it will be optional and the user can choose. If FDE is mandatory, then that will be chosen and not overridable. Similarly if it's set to never enable FDE. Obviously the user can choose not to register with Landscape and can do whatever they want. Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks!

Dean, Dmitrijs tells me that this is no longer on anyone's roadmap to implement. I try to concentrate on designing things that people will implement, ;-) so please reassign back to me if that situation is incorrect or changes.

(My initial thoughts are that "Install From Landscape…" would be the sole item in a cogwheel-icon menu on the first step of the installer.)

Correct, it was tabled. I'm going to invalidate the bug because I suspect if/when it comes up again, the scope will be different. Thanks.
