Bug Description

Quantal B1 opened a terminal session. Opened Firefox. Opened Pcmanfm browsed a file.
In terminal did
gedit test
where test would ba a new file name.
Got /var/crash from gedit.
Looks like gedoit to a non-existing file name is somehow picking up a file name from pcmanfm (?) and then crashing.

Comment #2. I can't look at a private bug. "Bug #1047985 cannot be found". No way for me to tell if the duplicate statis is wrong.

My bug reported here was with gedit and pcmanfm.

Tried gedit and "Files" (is that a new name for Nautilus?)

1. Display a file with "Files"

2. gedit temp
where temp is a new file name

The "Files" dosplay disappears, and the gedit temp dropps to command line.

Notuing in /var/log/crash except once a "Whooplsie" with zero file length. Didn't notice anything in syslog, I'm not a developer.

In the private bug I can't see, what is involved?

Thanks for looking at this.

Jerry

No problem with leafpad to a new file name with either pcmanfm or "Files". Note that both pcmanfm and "Files" are using gedit to display a file when in terminal a gedit temp is issued.

I don't know if gedit is supposed to open a new window when there's already a "Files" display of an existing file, or is gedit temp supposed to open a tab on the "Files" display?

I'd prefer a new window instead of a tab, I just don't know the intent. I could try Presice to see what it does, but of course Quantal is a different ball game.

Reproduces readily if anyone has anything to try.

Jerry
