lsusb recognizes the fingerprint reader as Bus 001 Device 003: ID 138a:003c Validity Sensors, Inc. VFS471 Fingerprint Reader .

Fingerprint GUI 1.05 sadly does not recognize any readers .

I have attempted to run Wireshark to sniff the USB traffic for this device under Windows, but the installer for the fingerprint software will not install on a Windos Virtual machine -- it complains that I should only be installing it on an authorised HP platform. I turfed the Windows installation a while back, so I don't have one.

By searching the net i found another Driver version (RPM format) .
Maybe this can help to get the VFS471 to work on ubuntu ?

Zbook 17 (successor of Elitebook)

~$ lsusb | grep Validity
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 138a:003f Validity Sensors, Inc.

Device is 003f instead of 003c, but the problem is the same.
Validity fingerprint reader does not work in Ubuntu neither 12.04 nor 14.04

Should this bug not be changed into a feature request?

I got this Validity fingerprint reader working on Ubuntu 16.04 x64 following this guide: https://askubuntu.com/questions/385372/vfs-495-finger-print-reader-not-working-in-ubuntu/924475#924475
basically fixing some minor issues and using files from this original tutorial: https://balintbanyasz.wordpress.com/2015/03/27/get-validity-vfs-495-fingerprint-reader-working-in-ubuntu-14-04/

The tutorial is for VFS495 (138a:003f), but it applies too for VFS471 (138a:003c, mine) and likely for VFS491 (138a:003d).
