Bug Description

Hi!
Would it be difficult to add a application indicator to the gbirthday package, so it would integrate better with unity?
A similar feature request was posted on SourceForge, but without any answer yet:
sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3567333&group_id=210152&atid=1012588

It would be great to have a application indicator for the very helpful tool gbirthday!
Thanks!

Please! This gets even urgent as gbirthday will be not usable anymore as the notification whitelist will not be editable anymore:
www.webupd8.org/2013/02/unity-notification-area-systray.html
"A recent Unity update in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail mentions that the "Notification area whitelist is obsolete", so you can no longer get notification area icons by whitelisting applications. "

Hello!
It is almost a year, but unfortunately nobody could find a solution for this. And the whitelisting is gone and a lot of people will soon migrate to 14.04 LTS and won't be able to use gbirthday anymore. PLEASE help:

Thanks, merci beaucoup!

I don't think any former gbirthday developer has interest in developing this.

However, it may be simple for anyone familiar with application indicators.

Contributions welcome...

I for one am not proficient with the unity quirks. As Debian maintainer of the package I'd be more than happy to accept a patch or some guidance on how this needs to be implemented. A quick google search gave me the impression that it would take a bit of time for someone unfamiliar with the intricacies to get up to speed. Help is welcome and would ensure to get this ticket fixed soon.

As Unity is not in active development anymore and not part of the "normal" Ubuntu distribution this bug can be closed or set to "Won't Fix" which I can not do. Thanks for your help so far.
