Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Ubuntu Fiesty (beta) amd64: evince 0.8.0 with poppler 0.5.4 doesn't correctly display fonts that are not embedded in the PDF, even though those fonts are installed. I think this may be similar to bug #52374 which was closed due to lack of information. I installed xpdf and it is able to correctly display the file.

Tero Karvinen (karvinen+launchpad) wrote : Bug exists in Dapper too

This problem also exists in 6.06 LTS Dapper.

A bypass is to view the file in xpdf, which replaces unknown fonts with those it can render correctly. I think PDF standard requires viewers to have some fonts, so those fonts are not embedded by default. Because of this, a lot of pdf:s are shown incorrectly.

Bug #96662 "ugly fonts in some documents in evince" seems similar to this bug.

Looks like this bug still appears in Ubuntu 13.10.

Looks like this can possibly be marked as a duplicate of bug 667752.
