Bug Description

It seems as though the proprietary plugin can develop incompatibilities with HPLIP when the free parts of HPLIP are updated.

I think HPLIP ought to check for that and ignore the plugin completely if it is for an incompatible version.

Dear Tim Waugh,

The hp-diagnose_plugin and hp-check-plugin tools, checks the compatibility of the plugin files.
However, during hp-setup time also plugin error message will be notified.

Hence marking as fixed.

No, it should be done automatically. If the plugin is not for the right version, it should not be used at all. Otherwise it can lead to crashes, as shown in the linked bug report.

Dear Tim,

User will get intimation automatically if Plugin is missing or incompatible for USB connected printers. We will work on for network connected printers also.

Thanks & Regards,
Amarnath

I just hit this with my M1212NF: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=865777

it's very silly for a working setup to break on update with no warning.
