It looks like the file '/etc/init.d/postfix' is missing:

update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/postfix: file does not exist
"""

Do you have any idea what could have happened here? Filesystem corruption maybe?

I wish I knew. I think I tried to install postfix a while back but couldn't get it configured properly so never used it I was pretty sure I had uninstalled it before. Now I wish I could get rid of it because ever since I upgraded to feisty I keep getting complaints when I install something that postfix and mailx didn't install properly.
