Bug Description

It most definitely needs some if it is to be considered a competent replacement for totem.

What are the use cases for repeat functionality? It doesn't seem to be useful in an interactive movie player. What kind of videos and under what circumstances would you loop?

I have a very specific use case that is actually the reason I found out it didn't have any such functionality.

I was demoing my game at a local convention last weekend, and was showing the trailer from my laptop using Audience. I thought it had a repeat button, but it didn't, so without an internet connection to download a media player that would do the job, I was left having to hit the space bar every time the video finished (once every two minutes or so) for the next 5 hours.

I'm sure there are lots of developers out there who definitely need such functionality, even if it's buried (in the options menu or something).

I would like to hear from the elementary design team about this. I'm not sure if anything more than adding a dconf key can be done without cluttering the interface. Adding a repeat button would make sense in a music player, but probably not for a video player.

If that's the case then just bury it in the options menu. It's not used that often, but it's certainly a useful addition.

A simple idea: When the movie finishes, replace pause button with repeat button. Simple!

How would that solve the problem at all? The idea is to have it repeat on its own, without someone having to click a button every time the video finishes.

Hmm, maybe holding ctrl turns the Play/Pause button to a repeat icon and then click that to start looping?

Peter Moorhead (gazornonplat) wrote :

That would be a bit better. Not especially intuitive, but still better than nothing.

I don't see why we wouldn't just make it a check box or on/off switch in the options dialogue, though.

What about long-press/right click on the play/pause button shows options "repeat one" and "repeat all" ?

dont you think that having a loop button in playlist is more discoverable?
