Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am using fglrx, the proprietary ATI driver, set up by default for two side-by-side monitors. When I turn on my laptop and it's not docked, I only have the laptop screen. Never mind that the system doesn't automatically issue xrandr -s 1... if I forget to do it myself, launching firefox any number of times sends the process into some kind of invisible limbo with no error feedback until I both "killall firefox-bin" and do xrandr -s 1 myself.

What version of ubuntu with what version of firefox are you using? Can you please give us a step by step of events that causes this issue for you and how it fails. Im getting the idea this isnt directly related to firefox but i would need the info asked for before we can know this.

This happens in Edgy and Feisty with whatever version of FF is the latest in their repos. I think it also happened with Dapper.

set up

  * sudo aticonfig --dtop=horizontal --enable-monitors=tmds1,crt1
  * have laptop disconnected from dock or any external monitors
  * sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
  * login
  * invoke firefox (nothing happens)
  * invoke it again (nothing happens)
  * killall firefox-bin
  * xrandr -s 1
  * invoke firefox (FF window comes up)

What is expected behaviour ... do other (gnome) applications behave better?

I expect to at least see an item in the window list and that a window that was offscreen would become visible if I invoke "xrandr -s 1". Yes, all other gnome apps I've seen seem to behave as I expect.
