Bug Description

Thunderbird 15 opens links in tabs within Thunderbird instead of in an external browser. There are settings to supposedly change this (one google query away if you are interested in which one it is (and if you are capable of fixing this bug, you already know what I am talking about) and these do not work.

A solution for this problem is given when there are complete instructions (e.g. which pref or user_pref modifications to make) and no sooner than that.

See also here for lots of people complaining about this: https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/link_in_thunderbird_email_wont_open_in_browser

One final request: can't you write a regression test for this (and other basic features), because it seems rather unprofessional that this bug has occurred over and over again, especially in an application which is now the default in Ubuntu?

Description: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release: 12.04

This works as expected here, and you're the only person to report this problem

(And please have a read through the bug reporting guidelines. We provide a link to these on the bug submission form. in particular, using Apport to report Thunderbird bugs is mandatory. Please do not use the Launchpad interface. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs)

Chris Coulson:
1. I don't care in the slightest how it works on _your_ machine.
2. Fact of the matter is that tabs are being opened.
3. You are also ignoring the people in the link I provided.
4. You have a ridiculous claim regarding me having to read the bug reporting guide lines
5. Apport is yet another broken Ubuntu program (See: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport ) . I have hit several of those bugs in the past and consider whoever developed Apport to be lacking in software development skills and thus not worthy of my time. So, if you want me to use Apport to report bugs for Thunderbird -- meaning that you adopt it in your process -- _you_ are the one who needs to fix Apport too in addition of Thunderbird. That's _fine_ by me, but don't expect me to use even more crap.
6. I hope your next response is going to show more intelligence, as you have shown zero now.

Insulting myself and my colleagues is not the best way to get somebody to help you with your problem. Please have a read of the code of conduct: http://www.ubuntu.com/project/about-ubuntu/conduct.

In the meantime, there's no point in keeping this bug open. Please don't report any more Thunderbird or Firefox bugs, as I will just close them

Now, you are just twisting my words. I directed this at you and I know of people who work for Mozilla who would never write the idiotic response you have just given and who I even respect; you are just not one of them, because you have demonstrated your stupidity in just a few lines.

Again, it's just you, the person responsible for Apport, and whoever hired you in the end.

As such, this does not constitute your colleagues, which would suggest a lack of hierarchy and not being part of a different team. It might very well be true that they are as stupid as you, but it's not something I talked about.

Also, you are the one who didn't take my report seriously and as such you didn't follow the code of conduct. I simply copied your behaviour. You should go into politics. Perhaps that might be some place where your incompetence is not noticed.

Summary: there is a bug which has been observed by multiple people and you close it because you don't like the part where I ridicule you off the planet, because you give a response which only a bean counter could give? That's just hilarious.

You know what? I think I will reopen. Yes, we can!
