Start-up extremely slow after full update of fresh install

Bug Description

After a fresh install of feisty fawn 7.04 beta and a full upgrade of all packages, the startup process becomes extremely slow, taking about 5 minutes, with long periods of no visible computer activity. The problem is repeatable, I reinstalled ubuntu and after the upgrade I encountered the same problem.

During startup, in text mode, I receive error messages: [ xx.xxxxxx] ata6.01: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4), where xx.xxxxxx is a set of numbers, different each time.

I suspect this is related to my CD-recorder, which doesn't work in 7.04.
